SSANU has called on the Federal and state governments to immediately implement the 2026 FGN/SSANU Agreement, release the required funds and pay all outstanding salary arrears.
In a communiqué issued after its 55th NEC meeting at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, the union said the agreement provides for a 35 per cent salary review through CONTTA, improved earned allowances, staff development, protection of non-teaching positions and equal career progression up to CONTISS 15.
SSANU warned against denying members negotiated benefits, delayed promotions, punitive postings, harassment or victimisation. It also urged institutions that have not paid the outstanding 25 and 35 per cent salary arrears to do so immediately.
While welcoming the HOPE-EDU programme and the ₦2.53 billion TETFund allocation to each public university, the union insisted that these interventions must not replace adequate government funding or the ₦1.3 trillion university revitalisation commitment.
The union also demanded transparency in the use of intervention funds, greater investment in university infrastructure and staff welfare, and stronger government action on inflation, pensions, housing, transportation and insecurity.
SSANU reaffirmed its commitment to industrial harmony but stressed that lasting peace in the university system depends on the faithful implementation of agreements reached with workers.
