The 55th NEC Meeting of SSANU marks a major milestone following the signing of the 2026 FGN/SSANU Agreement on 29 June 2026, which provides for a 35 per cent upward review through CONTTA, improved allowances, career progression, staff development, protection of non-teaching positions and enhanced opportunities for qualified staff, effective from 1 January 2026. While appreciating the Federal Government, the FGN Expanded Tertiary Institutions Negotiation Committee, the SSANU Renegotiation Team and members for their roles in achieving the agreement, NEC’s immediate priority is to secure the implementation circular, ensure full and uniform implementation of all financial and non-financial provisions, activate the Agreement Implementation Monitoring Committee, protect members against victimisation and discrimination, strengthen verified membership records, defend approved Schemes of Service and career progression rights, and direct branches and zones to closely monitor, document and report cases of delay, exclusion or misinterpretation. The focus of the Union must now shift from negotiation to ensuring that the agreement is implemented fully, promptly, fairly and without discrimination across the Nigerian university system.
